Tumblr's Storyboard

Tumblr Launches ‘Storyboard’ to Feature Creativity

Tumblr, the popular blogging platform, today launched a blog called Storyboard that will feature content creators who use Tumblr blogs. The blog will feature interviews and a behind-the-scenes look at the people behind compelling Tumblr blog content.

The announcement came on the Tumblr Editorial blog, where Chris Mohney, Editor and Chief at Tumblr, outlined what the Storyboard blog is all about. From the blog post:
We’re excited to announce the official launch of Storyboard, our new hub for in-depth conversations with Tumblr’s creative community. We’ll be posting regular features on creators working in and around Tumblr’s massively diverse cosmos — writers, musicians, animators, scientists, artists, archivists, chefs, comedians, or anyone else with a great story to tell. Today we’re talking about Michael Stipe, the New York Times, Afghanistan, and the design mechanics of the Tumblr Dashboard.
Mohney stated that Tumblr will publish stories and story ideas for the Storyboard blog from the Tumblr community itself. Stories posted to Tumblr with the accompanying hash tag #storyboard will be considered by Tumblr editors. “And if your story really works, we’ll ask to expand it for publication on Storyboard itself,” said Mohney.

According to this article, Tumblr made new blog service called 'Storyboard.' last May. They still are offering this service. Storyboard is kind like a assembly of lots of magazines and newspapers. Actually, they had partnership with other press companies such as Time.com, MTV, WNYC, etc. As a result, Storyboard shows lots of Tumblr highlighting posts including photo, video, news, report and so on so you can check all the posts in one page through 'Storyboard.' It is really convenient service I think. I feel like I'm reading a news paper when I use Storyboard of Tumblr.

If you click one of the posts of Storyboard, you can read an aritcle which is related to that posts and photos, videos as well. You can also click 'Like' those posts and reblog to your Tumblr.

This is actual Storyboard page, as you can see in this picture, you can read an article about those features and see the pictures as well.

Take a look this video that shows the features and intention of Storyboard.

Tumblr Recommendation

Hello, today I'd like to recommend some nice Tumblr pages which I've been following.
I'm actually really interested in music and photograph, maybe most of Tumblr pages are about it.
However, there are also lots of nice Tumblr pages about various concepts and interest except those Tumblrs,
so you'd better find out your own nice Tumblr!

1. Music History in Gifs

This tumblr shows remarkable and iconic moments of music in Gif images.
As you know, Gif is animated image with lots of dots.
This Tumblr is created by Joshua Carrafa who is a guitarist in Brooklyn-based band Old Monk.
In addition to Gif images, he always posts some comment about that image.

I brought some Gif images from this Tumblr.

2012.  Psy releases his music video for Gangnam Style.  Never before has an artist so foreign been able to make such a huge impact with one crazy music video.  And this video is definitely crazy.  Also great.

1997.  Radiohead releases OK Computer, and it goes on to become one of the mostcritically acclaimed records of all time.  They released a couple of great videos, and a guy plays ping pong with an angel.  Also a guy cuts his own limbs off for some reason.

2. The World of a Graphic Designer

This Tumblr's tag line is 'Everything you need to know about the life of a graphic designer.' That sentence explains that this Tumblr has variety of nice sources for designer.
However, If you are not a graphic designer you don't have to be disappointed.
This Tumblr will inspire you with lots of photos and graphics when you need 'Creativity.'

This Tumblr is run by Liz Climo who is an animator working on 'The Simpson'.
She usually posts her own animation and cartoon with the cute animal characters and stories.
Her cartoon is quite short, but it's really adorable and cute though.
Some cartoons are reminded me of heart-warming stories.
Those cartoons are her works. You can see lots of cartoons by visting her Tumblr.

4. People Vs. Place

This Tumblr is photography Tumblr which is a collaboration with two photographers Timothy Burkhart and Stephanie Bassos.
The special thing in this Tumblr is that one photographer exposes a full roll of film of only “people,” and the other reloads the same film again to imprint only “places” to the same roll.
So, the result photos are extremely special and dreamlike.
Here are their artworks.

How to spot a Tumblr user

This image is related to the documentary about Tumblr I posted previously.
I was surprise at the percentage of young users!
I thought age between 18~24 people use Tumblr over 50%. I don't know why!
Anyway, LA is the most popular Tumblr city!
Like the documentary, this image is also showing the characteristics of Tumblr exaggeratingly, but it is also interesting I think.
If you are using Tumblr or have used before, you might understand this image better :)

Tumblr, the documentary

Tumblr, The Documentary

Video from: http://vimeo.com/1181715
Filmed by: David Seger

"Who uses David Karp's microblogging site Tumblr? To us, they are trustafarians and their hangers-on — men with beards and thick glasses, girls with rainbow leggings and bangs. They are Sanfrooklyn's creative types and those who dress like them. Or — according to David Seger's Tumblr: the documentary, embedded below — they are "the dumbest babies of them all." We take exception to this as a Tumblista ourself, though we can't deny a sad correlation between our self-worth and the number of those who follow us."

Hi, I found this 'Fake' documentary about Tumblr.
Those people seem to talk about Tumblr earnestly, but they are just making fun of Tumblr and Tumblr users.
As you can read above quotation, usually people think TYPICAL types of people are using Tumblr.
Maybe, this fake documentary wanted to have a dig at Tumblr.
At first, I was fooled by two fake CEOs of Tumblr! I thought they were real CEOs but they were not.
Anyway, it is quite hilarious to watch and well-made haha enjoy it.

Official Tumblr List

 OFFICIAL TUMBLR LIST

Nowadays, many celebrities, politicians and artists are using social network service (SNS) to promote and announce their new achievment and activity. However, some of them are using SNS just for recording their daily life like other normal peopls do. Usually, most of them used Facebook and Twitter but, these days they also opened the official Tumblr pages.

I found some official Tumblr page of celebrities, politicians, singers, etc. I don't think there are official Tumblr page for Korean celebrities. Hope you can enjoy this and why don't you follow your favorite celebrities?

1. Britney Spears

I'm not sure she is doing her Tumblr by herself but, her tumblr is quite active.
It usually reblogs other's post about Britney and her activity and announce her new activity as well.

2. Beyonce

Unlike Britney's Tumblr, Beyonce's Tumblr is more private.
She usually posts her and her family's private pictures.
If you enter her Tumblr, you can see her daughter's picture too :)

3. Barack Obama

This is Obama's official Tumblr. I think this tumblr is run by government now.
However, when he took the political campaign a few months ago, he used the Tumblr to promote his election.
Now, his Tumblr usually updates his policy, people's opinion, photos, news, etc.

4. Docter Who (British Drama)

This Tumblr is official Tumblr of British Drama 'Docter Who'. There are also many official Tumblrs for TV shows and broadcast stations all over the world.
Through this Tumblr, you can check the synopsis and chracters also see the fan art of Docter Who.

If you are interested in official Tumblr,
why don't you find your favorite stars or shows Tumblr?

Did Tumblr become top 10 U.S. web site?

Tumblr NOT in the 10 U.S. most popular web sites list.

Tumblr NOT in top 10 U.S. most popular website list
An excited and overwhelmed David Karp announced to his staff at Tumblr today that the microblogging service has achieved a spot among the top ten sites in the U.S., but he was mistaken.

In the five years since its launch, Tumblr has amassed an impressive global monthly audience of almost 170 million people, according to new data from web measurement company Quantcast.

In the U.S. alone, 61.3 million people visit the site every month, posting and viewing photos, text, quotes and all manner of content.

In a post on Tumblr's staff blog, CEO David Karp proclaims a milestone has been reached and that the site has entered into the top 10 most trafficked sites in the U.S.

"Hey everyone! I have an exciting and slightly overwhelming milestone to share with you. Tumblr has broken into the Top 10 sites in the U.S., and now has a worldwide audience of 170 million people."

I captured this image Tumblr staffs' tumblr.

However, the placement by Quantcast at number nine is for traffic to the entire Tumblr 'network' of blogs and not for the website itself. Tumblr's site actually sits at number 15 in the top U.S. sites list.

Now, Tumblr is lanked in 14th among U.S. web sites list.

David Karp (Tumblr CEO) might realize his mistake, so he posted again about this lank.

Scratch that [the earlier post]: I anxiously published this post this morning, not sure if we would hold on to the #10 spot when the rankings refreshed this afternoon.
Turns out the holiday pushed us to #9! :) "

Tumblr hit by cyber worm

Tumblr hit by cyber worm from group engaged in 'anti-blogging' campaign

Tumblr, the micro-blogging platform that hosts more than 83 million blogs, was hit by a cyber worm that filled up user dashboards with an infectious post by a trolling group.

A group called the Gay Nigger Association of America, which says it is engaged in an "anti-blogging" campaign, took responsibility for the attack on Monday. The cyber worm infected major Tumblr accounts including those of USA Today, The Verge and Entertainment Weekly.

(↑ The Tumblr page of Entertainment Weekly, after the attentions of the GNAA.)

The infected post began with "Dearest 'Tumblr' users" and continued into a passionate rant against the platform and what it called its "emo" users. The post read: "This is in response to the seemingly pandemic growth and world-wide propagation of the most fucking worthless, contrived, bourgeoisie, self-congratulating and decadent bullshit the internet ever had the fortune of facilitating."

Tumblr advised anyone who has viewed the post to immediately log out of all browsers that may be using Tumblr, and said it was working with its engineers to "remedy the situation as swiftly as possible".

A GNAA spokesman, Leon Kaiser, said in an email:
"This was just another part of our "anti-blogging" campaign. GNAA's stance on blogging in general has always been a negative one: in short, blogging is lowering journalistic standards to the point where the number of friends a murderer has on Facebook has become news.
Tumblr is a blogging website whose employees we have found, time and time again, to put the safety of their users second to their revenue. Instead of hiring competent, dedicated staff, they hire part-time programmers who can't even defend against the most basic of security issues, such as XSS. I mean, for chrissake, they don't even throttle (or the threshold is ridiculously high) the number of posts per minute a user is allowed to make! Blogging services everywhere need to step up and hire people who know what they're doing."

In 2007, the GNAA hacked the Obama campaign's social network and created a parody site that claimed Jewish people were behind 9/11, which CNN erroneously reported as real. GNAA recently convinced several media outlets that people were organizing looting on Twitter during hurricane Sandy with the hashtag #Sandylootcrew. In November, the group launched an attack on male My Little Pony fans with a "War on Bronies".

A GNAA spokesperson told Gawker's Adrian Chen that the War on Bronies was part of their greater War on Blogs. The spokesperson also said that no Tumblr accounts were compromised by the worm, which "was purely a spam thing", and claimed to have contacted Tumblr several weeks ago about the security gap that allowed the GNAA to launch the attack. The spokesperson said the group had not heard back from the site.

The damage was actually minimal but, this offending post can be shown in Tumblr's editor and deleting all the posts.

After this spreading cyber worm,

Tumblr posted tweet about resolving their damage from cyber worm.
However, a lot of users of Tumblr still are worrying about the safety and reliability of Tumblr service.
There have been many cases such as phishing attack, hacking in Tumblr.
Tumblr should make an effort to prevent those kinds of problem.
